PlantMaster guidelines for expedient answers!

?

Most of you join us in wading through mountains of unwanted and undesirable Email messages every day. The PlantMaster is besieged with many, many junk messages that lead to the accidental deletion or misplacement of some of your questions.

In order to be sure that your messages get answered, please follow these suggestions:

1. You are on our Garden Notes list because you have requested it . If you want to remain on the list, you don't have to do anything. If you want to opt out, just tell us and we'll remove you. If you change your Email address and want to continue getting Garden Notes, send a note and we'll update your profile. IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU REALIZE THAT WE DON'T SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH ANYBODY.

2. If the Subject Line is not automatically filled in, please fill it in, but avoid generalities like "Hi", "Urgent", "Help" or "Question". Try to be specific so that we can be sure to see it and that it doesn't go into our Junk Mail.

3. Text or HTML - either is OK and if you have a particularly difficult problem to describe, consider sending a photo. Make the photos no larger than 1Mb so that they download easily. This also goes for plant photos that you need identified.

A special note for people who visit our site and who write with questions - each week that we advertise, we post our ad a day or so early onto our website. If you are interested in getting a preview of what's on sale in the upcoming weekend, visit our Weekly Specials page.

Summertime!

Plant selections change tremendously for the warm, Summer months. We move away from the more tender-looking flowers to stronger colors and stronger plants. And while Hibiscus, Caladiums, Begonias and Impatiens remain as our favored, tried-and-true Summer selections, many new and exciting plants are coming our way.

Please enjoy this information and continue writing with your gardening questions and concerns. Check out the sidebar at the left for guidelines on how to make sure that The PlantMaster receives your questions.

Join the Cornelius Garden Club and you can receive an additional email newsletter that has coupons and additional information, including occasional advance notice of upcoming events and specials available only to Garden Club members. Click here to sign up.

Blushing Bride Hydrangea

Love at first sight. That's the reaction you'll have to Endless Summer® 'Blushing Bride' - a young beauty destined to walk hand in hand with Endless Summer The Original Hydrangea.

Bred by renowned Hydrangea expert Dr. Michael Dirr, 'Blushing Bride' boasts pure white mopheads of showy, semi-double florets that gradually mature to a sweet, subtle blush of pink. Foliage is deep and dark green. Strong stems and branches keep the plant sturdy and upright in the garden, and make the flowers perfect for cutting. And with its ability to rebloom all summer long, 'Blushing Bride' is sure to become a favorite.

Perennial Hibiscus

Hibiscus evoke thoughts of the tropics, warm island breezes and tangy, sweet Summertime refreshments. Most Hibiscus in the usual sense are tender, tropical plants that require either to be protected each Winter or else re-planted. What would you say if you didn't have to protect OR replant each Spring and could get flowers like the ones above?

We are all in luck! Now there are several varieties of bright, colorful, tropical-looking, true Hibiscus (Hibiscus moschuetos) that are totally Winter hardy and perennial, returning to delight each Spring. From left to right, 'Luna Red', 'Fireball', 'Kopper King' and 'Plum Crazy' are just some of the newer varieties of perennial Hibiscus. Treat these as you would any perennial in your garden. They require a sunny location, soil that drains well and your appreciation. Once satisfied, they reward their owners with HUGE flowers throughout the Summer and into the Fall.

Palms & Tropical Companions

Nothing speaks "tropical" like Palms. Most every image that you see from far-away islands feature a photo of a Palm or two. Now you can enjoy these beauties in your own landscape. Mexican Fan Palms (left) and Mediterranean Fan Palms (right) are but two of the hardy palms for our Houston landscapes. Windmill Palms are another favorite. And between these three is a range of growth from the large and stately of the Mexican Fan to the clumping and less formal Mediterranean Fan. Of course, we'd be missing a beat without a mention of the popular Sago Palm, probably the most recognized in the area.

Dressing up your Palm plantings is really easy, too. Tropical companions like Croton, Plumbago, Hibiscus, and even Bromeliads add the perfect touch of color and drama to complement these stately plants.

Mulching your garden beds will keep the soil cool and will help conserve water. Fertilizing your landscape plants will ensure that you have not only good growth but the flowers that you expect.

Enjoy your garden and let Cornelius help you be a Success in the Garden this year!
