Summer Gardening Tips

Calloway's ew extended release fertilizers help get plants through the
challenging Summer months.

ornamental grasses create motion in the landscape.
Summer is a critical time
for our landscape plants. To give our green investments the best possible
chances of survival, care during the Summer should include lightly feeding our
plants as we pour on more and more water. Avoid heavily fertilizing anything,
with the possible exceptions of our container plants and hanging baskets. Since
these rely completely on the water and nutrients that we provide, keeping them
growing throughout the Summer will ensure that they will produce the foliage and
flowers that we expect. But our garden plants capture many nutrients and
moisture from the surrounding soil so that we don't have to use tons of
fertilizers. Consider using organic sources like Calloway's Organic Fertilizer
or any of the other organic sources like dried molasses, corn meal, green sand
and composts. Also, modern extended-release fertilizers like our new Calloway's
Lasting Beauty and Lasting Performance fertilizers
contain slow-release nutrients that are great for Summer feeding.
Ornamental
Grasses are a multi-use choice for a Summer landscape. Once established, they
will provide color and motion in a landscape. The video above shows how even the
slightest breeze will create motion, in this case with Mexican Feather Grasses.
Many Grasses also provide food for wildlife, especially birds, once the seeds
mature. If used wisely, some Ornamental Grasses will multiply into surrounding
areas to create a natural-looking setting for other feature items like annual or
perennial color, upright shrubs or garden sculptures. Clumping Ornamental
Grasses can be easily discouraged from unwanted spread by removing seedlings.
